Contrasting Weekend of Results for Rapa: Exciting teenage Aussie Racing Car prospect Richie Rapa endured a mixed bag of results during the rained soaked fifth round of the series at Oran Park Raceway last weekend and in the end it cost him a chance of a podium result for the round overall. After qualifying and finishing both race one and two in fifth position, the 17-year-old looked well and truly on track for a podium for the weekend, but it wasn’t to be, as Sunday’s race three and four in wet weather conditions resulted in Rapa fail to continue his top five run. On Sunday morning for race three it was alleged that Rapa had jumped the start and therefore had to serve a drive through penalty. As a result of the drive through penalty Rapa was lapped by the field and finished in 29th position. Starting from 13th on the grid for the fourth and final race Rapa got away to a good start and by the second lap was well on his way to returning to the top five before contact with another car saw him drop down the order after being forced to run off the track and eventually finish in 24th. Overall, Rapa was pleased with the weekend as he definitely showed his promise, and it was just a bit of bad luck and adjusting to the wet weather track conditions that spoiled his chance at a round podium result. “My weekend is best summed up as a mixed back of results and to be honest I felt we were a good shot at a podium result had it not been for a few contentious incidents in both race three and four,” commented Rapa. “We once again showed that we are a top five contender, and despite encountering a few dramas over the weekend, I’m fairly happy with the weekend as we were certainly up there amongst the series contenders.” For Rapa this was the very first occasion he had competed in wet weather conditions and although it was a difficult initiation it was an experience that he enjoyed. The sixth round of the Aussie Racing Car Series will be fought out at Sandown International Raceway in Victoria on the weekend of September 14 – 16. In 2007 Rapa is proudly supported by Wholesale Property Brokers and Fabre Australia.
