Rapa’s Sandown Weekend Finishes in Strong Fashion: After having an unlucky start to the weekend, Richie Rapa was able to bounce back at Sandown International Raceway in Victoria during the sixth and penultimate round of the Aussie Racing Car Series to finish in amongst the top ten results. Earlier in the weekend Rapa suffered some misfortune where he lost second gear in practice and a misjudgement in qualifying, when he pitted to make changes late in the session and that saw him 24th at the completion. Despite those setbacks Rapa was able to push on and finish 11th in the opening race, and place eighth and seventh respectively in the remaining two races of the weekend. Disappointed with the mechanical woes and a poor judgement during practice and qualifying, Rapa rued the missed opportunities for a stronger showing over the course of the weekend aboard his # 50 Property Wholesale Brokers supported car. “Our dramas and mistakes in practice and qualifying saw me miss out on a chance for a better result, as in qualifying we were in the top five only to pit and make changes at the wrong time and during that period the track had dried up and I couldn’t manage another lap as the session had ended,” remarked the 17-year-old. “We can just count this weekend down as another learning experience and things weren’t helped when we had to lease an engine after damaging our main engine in practice, so we were on the back foot from basically the word go unfortunately. “In the three races we managed to move forward, as we finished both race two and three inside the top ten, and we certainly had plenty of exciting battles in the process of achieving our results for the weekend, as our chips were down, but I never gave up.” The seventh and final round of the Aussie Racing Car Series will be fought out on the streets of the Gold Coast in Queensland, supporting the Lexmark Indy 300, on October 18 – 21.
